Founded in 1973 as a registered non-profit and non-government-funded non-profit organisation, Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association (HKYHA) is one of the 60 national associations affiliated with Hostelling International (HI), the worldwide umbrella organisation that provides members with information covering over 2,650 youth hostels and other travel benefits. HKYHA operates 7 youth hostels across Hong Kong and currently has an individual membership of more than 30,000 people and group membership of over 600.

The programme was first commenced in September 2014, and was renewed in 2017, 2020 and 2023. The main target groups are primary and secondary school teachers and students, and it includes learning materials for download, Mei Ho House Experiential Camp and annual essay competition. Through sharing different oral histories from former residents of Mei Ho House and Shek Kip Mei Estate, students can gain in-depth understanding of the livelihood during the 50s to 70s and the development of Hong Kong. This programme aims to build up positive values and personal growth, as well as to continue the striving and resilience spirit of Hong Kong.
